Treatments
Dr. Caragan will partner with you to determine the best procedure to address your concern. The procedures available include the following:
- Medical Acupuncture is a method of encouraging the body to promote natural healing and to improve functioning. This is done by inserting needles and applying heat or electrical stimulation at very precise acupuncture points.
- Auricular “Ear” Acupuncture is acupuncture done on the ear. The name comes from the Latin acus, or “needle”, and from pungere, or “prick,” and involves the insertion of superfine needles into specific points on the body. Once inserted, the needles can be manipulated to stimulate the body for healing effects. In auricular acupuncture, the insertion of needles is performed on the ear, which is thought to contain a myriad of important and potentially therapeutic acupuncture points.
- Trigger Point Injection Therapy (TPI) is a procedure used to treat painful areas of muscle that contain trigger points, or knots of muscle that form when muscles do not relax. Many times, such knots can be felt under the skin. Trigger points may irritate the nerves around them and cause referred pain, or pain that is felt in another part of the body. In the TPI procedure, a small needle is inserted into the patient’s trigger point. The injection contains a local anesthetic that sometimes includes a coricosteroid. With the injection, the trigger point is made inactive and the pain is alleviated.
- Osteopathic Manipulation Therapy (OMT) is a hands-on care treatment. It involves using the hands to diagnose, treat, and prevent illness or injury. Using OMT, Dr. Caragan will move your muscles and joints using techniques including stretching, gentle pressure and resistance.
