Dr. Caragan’s philosophy of practice includes a holistic approach as he is trained in many aspects of the healing traditions.
He views medicine as one part science and the other part art. He believes the study of medicine requires the aid of science while the practice of medicine is an art. By viewing medicine as both a science and an art, Dr. Caragan is able to treat patients using a holistic approach – he sees patients as a person, not a disease.
Since Dr. Caragan is a trained osteopathic physician, he uses osteopathic manipulative treatment on a regular basis for those with musculoskeletal problems. In addition, he was also taught “Battlefield Acupuncture” by Dr. Richard Niemtzaw which involves ear acupuncture for the treatment of pain. As a former military physician, Dr. Caragan incorporates “Battlefield Acupuncture” into practice with pain patients. He has used “Battlefield Acupuncture” successfully to help patients with both acute and chronic pain. As a graduate of the Helms Medical Institute, which educates physicians in the science and art of medical acupuncture, he incorporates many traditions within medical acupuncture to give the best treatments for his patients.
Dr. Caragan is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, US Academy of Family Physicians, Travis County Medical Society, Texas Osteopathic Medical Association, and American Osteopathic Association.
